Here's an antique hard rubber syphilis or venereal disease medical syringe that we show being dug from the ground in one of our most recent Digger Dave & Shovelin Shelley Beeler YouTube digging videos..
This is a black hard rubber or "India rubber" gonorrhea syphilis syringe (with original plunger or push rod), for injecting liquid cures for venereal disease directly into one's sexual organ. We show this exact syringe being dug on one of our most recent digging videos ....It is made of black vulcanized rubber which is commonly referred to as "hard rubber".....3 1/2"long..........rounded tip with single hole....threaded collar unscrews for easy cleaning of the inside and plunger, which has a circular ring handle.......Excellent condition with no chips, nicks or damage. This syringe was used by males or females who had venereal disease. Mercury was one of the most common "cures" for Vd in the 1800s which gave rise to the saying "An evening with Venus: A month with Mercury". Many prostitutes had gonorrhea who passed the disease on to men who had been away from home during the Civil War. Thousands of men contracted gonorrhea from prostitutes and sadly brought diseases home with them after the war was over in 1865. Of course there was no cure for venereal disease, so home treatments of mercury and various other awful and dangerous drugs were used with these syringes.....to no avail.
