    The PBM Mariner was a flying boat built during WWII as a patrol aircraft and antisubmarine aircraft. Several versions were built, with the PBM-5 being the last wartime production model. There were 628 of this version built and they powered by two R-2800 Double Wasps radial engines. Most or all of this version served in the Pacific Theater where they were at home flying patrols over vast expanses of ocean looking for Jap shipping or downed pilots. Late in the war, this version was selected to test the new "JATO" rocket bottles to improve heavily loaded takeoff runs. A VERY iconic aircraft from WWII which soldiered on through the Korean War and finally retired in 1956! If you love flying boat aircraft, this is a must have!!
