Description
This is the unit history of the 230th Field Artillery Battalion in World War II. Edited for clarity, this the unit history presented to the members of the battalion at the end of the war.The 230th FA Battalion fought in some of the most desperate battles in the American and Allied advance across Europe to end the oppression of Nazi Germany. An independent battalion, the 230th was transferred a number of times between service in the 29th and 30th Infantry Divisions.
The battalion participated in the Breakout at St. Lo, the Battle of Mortain, the battles along the Siegfried Line, the Drive to the Roer River, the Rhine River, and across the Elbe River. It is illustrated with many photographs, maps, and drawings which have rarely or never been published before.
The history was edited by conflict historian and retired U.S. Army master sergeant, Walt Cross, who holds degrees in history and science and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy. A decorated combat veteran ( two awards of the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in combat and meritorious service) Walt served with Battery A, 1st Battalion, 7th Artillery from 1968 to 1970.
