Description

My father, a physician who practiced in the 50's, acquired from  a doctor friend's estate, who practiced at the turn of the century this instrument among various other instruments.
On the label of the instrument it says: Medical Specialties Mfg. Co. Chicago. Patented 4-23-07,  11-17-08,11-24-08,10-28-13, 4-21-14
The 7/8" circular metal heating device is stamped "6 volts", on the back is printed "Metal Spec. Mfg. Co. Pat. 11-24-08"
The heating device seems to have a dual function and attaches on the side as well as inside the bell.  It appears that the electrical head was used in two different modes, one by direct contact and the second when placed in the metal bell for indirect contact.
There are two ivory colored compression activated buttons that appear to function in two different modes and appear operative.
The cloth insulated 2 wire stranded copper, which has been cut off at the base of the instrument, runs through the wooden handle.
