Original WW2 Australian metal hat badge for the 45th Battalion (St. George Regiment), 1930-1942. Measures approximately 1 15/16” across and 2 1/2” high. Marked on the reverse to the maker, “STOKES” in raised letters on the reverse (left side at the indentation of the horse’s hindquarters). No damage but moderate to heavy wear with the gilt largely worn away from the entire front of the badge. Heavy tarnish on the bottom portion. The integral fastening lugs are present, but the separate cotter pins are not, easily replaced. Salty with a “been there” look. A real one! You are buying the material pictured.
